St. Johann im Walde - Green forests, wild water!

The Isel is the longest glacier river in Tyrol and a popular excursion destination for young and old, and an insider tip for nature and water sports fans. St. Johann is also the end of the first stage of the “Iseltrail”. From St. Johann, rafting and kayaking tours can be started in the rushing waters of the glacier river towards Lienz. A walk or hike along the banks of the Isel guarantees pure relaxation and those who would rather go a little higher are well advised to take the hiking trails to Oberleibnig, Michelbach and Oblaß. In these places, hikers will also find water-rich recreational areas with several idyllic hamlets in the middle of untouched nature. Oberleibnig can also be reached from St. Johann by cable car. If you have the necessary stamina, you can set off from Oberleibnig on a long hike towards Hochschober, to which the Schober Group owes its name.

There is no shortage of leisure activities in St. Johann im Walde, even in winter. Ski fans can use the free ski buses to quickly reach the nearby ski areas, such as the Großglockner Resort Kals/Matrei or the Lienz ski areas Zettersfeld and Hochstein.
