THE   BEAUTIFUL   TUSCANY   OF   FRANCE

We’ve been established since the summer of 1989 and are still enjoying the company of our guests, lots who have become friends and return for another happy holiday.
Here are some comments from our guests:

Dear Zoe and Peter,
Arrived home safely after a fantastic holiday.  We all wish to thank you for help making Ali's 60th birthday so good.  You were both great company and excellent hosts.
Thank you both once again.            Regards Sue and Ali

Dear Zoe and Pete,

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at Mondounet, thank you both for making us so welcome. It is a lovely place for a holiday and we had a very relaxing stay. The area is also very beautiful and we enjoyed visiting the local towns and villages, and driving through the peaceful countryside.

Although we are very much back in the swing of things back here now at least we have some lovely memories of our stay in the Lot and some good photographs of the area to accompany them.
Hope it won’t be too long before we can return.
Best wishes,
Caroline and Tony

You too can relax, explore and discover our little bit of paradise – you’ll have a wonderful time.  The locals here have a really unique heritage and their traditional warm welcome will add to the enjoyment of your stay.

When you arrive we’ll be pleased to offer you a litre of our good Cahors wine and an aperitif to welcome you to Mondounet.

There's lots see and do, for all ages,  including a lake with a beach, fishing,  tennis, golf, canoeing, horse-riding, cycling, organised walks, wine tasting, prehistoric caves, chateaux, markets galore, music - blues, jazz, classical ........
plus.....you may like to join us for a

POOLSIDE    BARBECUE   WITH   ENTERTAINMENT

Our pool is now heated from Early Spring until the end of October and is fenced to comply with French regulations.

Mondounet is built in the beautiful Quercy stone (the colour of champagne) and overlooks two valleys in the heart of the Cahors wine region  - vineyards just around the corner for wine-tasting, plus very good and inexpensive restaurants which we can recommend (we have tried most of them!).

On your first evening with us, or during your holiday, you may like to relax in your accommodation; we have a catering friend who will bring you a superb 3 course meal (menu available). OR we can book a table for you at a local auberge/restaurant, just let us know which you prefer.
**************
This is a really beautiful region with lots to see and do - or you can lie back on a lounger beside the pool, leave stress behind and relax in a lovely setting for a wonderful holiday.

If you plan to travel leisurely through France, we will be pleased to help you plan your route and to book an overnight stop, please let us know.

When booking we can give you more information on how to obtain reduced ferry and tunnel fares.

If you decide to fly/drive, budget airlines are Ryanair, Easyjet and Flybe and often you can get good deals with British Airways  - nearest airports are Toulouse and Bergerac - approx 1 1/4 hours drive from us.  Rodez and Bordeaux are about 2 hours drive.  You'll find the roads so good here and traffic minimal, so really easy driving.

an idea of .....VISITS TO ENJOY DURING YOUR STAY AT MONDOUNET

SUNDAY - The colourful market at MONTCUQ - our lively medieval village - listed in a book of the 100 best markets in France....The market is very picturesque- and what could be better than mingling with the locals and browsing around the stalls, buying lots of lovely produce and having a drink in one of the cafes, watching the very French scene - soaking in the ambiance………..etc. etc.

M0NDAY - a good day to visit the caves at Pech Merle,  east of Cahors (some of the best prehistoric cave paintings to be seen in France) - Lovely trip beside the river and through the mountains (literally!)  and at the same time visit, across the river,  the picturesque  and dramatic medieval village of St. Cirq Lapopie.

TUESDAY - market at PUY L'EVEQUE - fantastic medieval village dominating the Lot river - there's canoeing on the river in the Summer -  . The market is at the top of the village with lovely views over the river.
Also this is a good day to continue on to the CHATEAU DE BONAGUIL - fortified chateau - like King Arthur's Castle-

WEDNESDAY - there is a market in LUZECH  on the river Lot and keeping the river on your right you come to the village of CAIX which has a centre for canoeing etc. Continuing further down this road you will see,on your left,  the Chateau of the Queen of Denmark and the Comte de Monpezat -and their vineyards - you could always have a wine tasting - (the sign "degustation" means that the vineyards are able to be visited for wine-tasting).

THURSDAY - BIG MARKET IN LIBOS - also visit TOURNON D'AGENAIS a 13th century bastide with superb views over the countryside and the lovely old terraced village of PENNE D'AGENAIS with it's silver domed church and caves

FromTournon D'agenais you continue in the direction of Villeneuve sur Lot until you reach Penne D'Agenais - you will see a silver domed church at the top of the hill on your right, St. Sylvestre, which is worth a visit. Behind the church are caves where once upon a time the locals used to worship and if you climb up even further you will find a large crucifix and statues - also a magnificent view over the river Lot
Penne is a lovely village, full of medieval houses, terraced with café/restaurants and artisan shops.  Due to the magnificent long views from the top of the village,  Penne  was chosen by Richard the Lionheart as his strong-hold when he was keeping order in the vast realm of his mother, Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Port de Penne is also worth a visit , the river Lot is wide and there is a water sports centre here.

FRIDAY - good market in PRAYSSAC which is next to Puy L'Eveque going towards Cahors

SATURDAY -another market at Montaigu de Quercy (where there is also a large lake with a beach good swimming, fishing etc.) and also in CAHORS  - visit the Pont Valentre which is a famous medieval bridge and this is why we are here - Pete will tell you the story!

The Pont Valentre is on the left of Cahors and the medieval part of the town is on the right with a superb indoor market, Cathedral and lots of lovely boutiques, shoe shops, etc.  In the main boulevard is a bistro called Le Palais, with aubergine coloured blinds - good value food and superb ice creams, you'll find it on the left of the Boulevard Gambetta -about half way up.
On the outskirts of Cahors, before you cross over the bridge to go up the main boulevard there are traffic lights and if you turn right here you can follow the road right up to the top of the hill to MONT ST. CYR - here you will see Cahors and the river which forms a horseshoe around the town - amazing views….

PLUS ......Good cycling, golf, horse riding, lakes for windsurfing and swimming, take a picturesque trip on a river boat down the Lot river, canoeing,  tennis, fishing, walking and rambling, wine tasting and  ………

MORE VISITS……..Whilst you are here and if in the  mood, there's lots more to see including  the lavender farm which is 5 minutes drive along our valley and a  short distance from us  is the Grotte de Roland –  VERY INTERESTING CAVES TO VIST……

We can recommend lots of good restaurants, all prices, from the local cafes to Michelin star rated for that special occasion - we'll be pleased to book for you. Plus you can join in the local village fetes - dining, dancing the night away with the locals -  not to be missed!

As you can see there is lots to do and see here for all ages including a lake with beach, tennis, golf, horse-riding, cycling, organised walks, wine tastings - you'll have a wonderful holiday.

We look forward to sharing our home and this lovely part of S. W. France with you.

Kind regards,

Zoé and Peter
