The house   

The Ötscher-Schutzhaus is next to the mountain station of the Grosser Ötscher chairlift in Lackenhof - Lower Austria. At 1418m above sea level it is the highest point of a wonderful ski and hiking area which can be reached by chairlift. We have opened for you during the ski season and hiking season, without a rest day, an inexpensive half-board and whole-day warm kitchen. We invite you to spend your holiday with us and to choose the Ötscher-Schutzhaus as your destination. Enjoy our landscape and the many possibilities.

Summer attractions  

The Ötscher-Tormaeuer Nature Park is the largest and, for many, the most beautiful natural park in Lower Austria. It stretches around the 1.893 m high Ötscher, the so-called 'Vaterberg'. With its deeply incised river runs, wide almboedes, steep rocky peaks, enormous cave systems and high waterfalls, it is a real hiking paradise. The 'Grand Canyon of Austria' in the Ötscher ditches impresses with its rushing mountain stream and its bizarre rock formations. Bathing in the crystal-clear mountain stream and showering under waterfalls has already refreshed many hikers. The largest cave system in Lower Austria is located at the Ötscher. The impressive caves Geldloch and Taubenloch have been explored for centuries and are located on the hiking trail from the Ötschergräben to the Rähenkamm, Ötschergipfel and Schutzhaus.

Enjoy our beautiful ski area with 19 km of perfectly groomed slopes and runs in all levels of difficulty. Details at www.oetscher.at Our house is also very popular as a base for snowshoe hikes. For groups we organize guided tours, we provide the snowshoes for our guests free of charge. Thus, non-skiers can reach the summit of the Great Ötschers in winter and experience our enchanting winter landscape. Of course, our house is also the basis for all enthusiastic hikers and the starting point for great tours.
