The domain owes its name to the many sources that originate there. Taillebourg, 2 km away on the other bank of the Charente, witnessed the famous battle at the end of which the King of France Saint Louis reconquered Aquitaine which had been under English domination for several centuries. This battle was immortalized in 1837 by the painter Delacroix. In 1638, the Sénéchal, Sieur de Mouillepied was assessor of the Count of Taillebourg. Château Mouillepied owes its current appearance to the chief engineer of the Rochefort arsenal, Guillaume Clairins des Lauriers, Chevalier de Saint Michel, who enlarges this residence into a pleasant 18th century classical residence with terraced gardens and rooms 'water.
